NOVA – Interview
-Could you tell us about yourself and your musical background?
“I go by the name NOVA. I’m from Ambridge, PA, 20 miles outside of Pittsburgh. I grew up a fan of hip hop, r&b, pop, classic funk, you name it. I started rapping when I was 10. I created hundreds of songs, performed with Lil Jon, Flo Rida, Wiz Khalifa, Ryan Leslie, and more. Moved to Atlanta, GA in Summer 2008 to pursue the dream full-time, now here I am. Still grinding, still creating.”
-Describe the Atlanta music scene. What are its main benefits?
“It’s a beautiful music scene, full of vibrant cats. I’ve learned so much about myself and what I do best by being around some of the best talent in the world on a daily basis. One thing I’ll tell you…Atlanta is home to MANY, MANY lyrical and deep cats. Do not sleep.”
-Who are your four biggest musical influences?
“LL Cool J, Mary J. Blige, Queen Latifah, and my friend Zach Kumer.”
-Could you tell us about the writing and recording process of your album “Supernova”?
“In 2011, I had my first daughter…things were tough with me and her mother…my life was changing so fast…I stopped creating music to focus on taking care of this new life I was bringing into the world. During that time, I ended up blessed with a new job and things (began) going smoothly. Once (my daughter) was born, her mother said to me “How are you going to tell her to chase her dreams, if you gave up on your own”. The next day, I went to the studio, began recording again, and the focus was to be the BEST VERSION of myself possible, and that’s what Supernova embodies. Being a superhero version of yourself. That’s pretty much the premise and I’ve been on that vibe since.”
-What’s next for Nova?
“Working on a new project for 2013 called “ME”. Very dope, very new, and just one more step towards my dreams. I hope everybody loves and listens. Check out the first single called ‘So What’ on YouTube.”
